Merry Christmas everybody! I hope your holidays are going well already but hopefully I can help make them just a little bit brighter by sharing some fun seasonal celebrations from the world of video games. If you don't happen to own any of the games on this list worry not! I've included some awesome festive video collections from some of my favorite youtube channels as well. In no particular order ...
#1. The Elder Scrolls Online - New Life Festival

One of the things I've always loved about the world of the Elder Scrolls series is how it has its own fully fleshed out calendar, complete with holidays and festivals that mirror our own. On the 25th of Evening Star (or December, as you might know it) the New Life Festival is celebrated across the land of Tamriel, and in The Elder Scrolls Online, that means holiday-themed quests, giving players the chance to take part in the various holiday traditions of the Elder Scrolls races. More importantly, festive rewards, items and experience boosts are on offer, ensuring everyone can get what they really want for New Life: Loot.
The Elder Scrolls Online New Life festival runs until January 2nd.
#2. Hitman Holiday Pack

If you still haven't gotten around to trying out 2016's Hitman now is the perfect time to jump in and give it a shot (heh). In the Hitman Holiday Pack you'll not only find the first two training missions but all released content for the Paris level - including last years Christmas themed "Holiday Hoarders" mission (which fans of Home Alone might find especially fun) - completely free to download and play on all platforms. Click the link above for all the details, but suffice it to say there is enough content in this free pack to keep you going for awhile. If you do decide to upgrade to the full game all of your progress will carry over, and in my opinion it's well worth it.
The Hitman Holiday Pack is available until January 5th.
#3. Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra Christmas Challenges

I've previously mentioned my love for British gaming YouTubers Outside Xbox, and one of the things I look forward to most this time each year are their annual Christmas challenges. The premise is silly, the challenges are ridiculous, and the videos are a lot of fun. Also, for the second year in a row since launching spin-off channel Outside Xtra is participating in their own series of Christmas challenges which are just as awesome. Give them a watch, and I promise you'll have a good time - and maybe check out some of their other videos while you're there. With only two million subscribers they could really use the help ...

#4. Grant Theft Auto Online - Festive Surprise

Players in GTA Online always have something to look forward to around Christmas, and this year is no different. Once a year players can enjoy a winter wonderland as snow blankets the land surrounding normally sunny Los Santos, San Andreas, ensuring that for once they'll never run out of ammo (though pelting someone with a snowball who's carrying a grenade launcher may not make you the brightest star on the tree). Additionally, players can collect holiday rewards and take advantage of discounts on select items and experience bonuses for certain events, and players who log in on December 25th can claim a free classic Grand Theft Auto vehicle.
Festive activities end on January 1st.
#5. Eurogamer Christmas Videos

Besides being a solid games journalism site, Eurogamer also hosts another of my favourite youtube channels, and their video team has really outdone themselves this year. From a hilarious series of pacifist runs in Player Unknowns Battlegrounds (the last one is especially dicey), a tense Christmas quiz and even a yule log video, Eurogamer provides hours of Christmas entertainment. I made my own Eurogamer Christmas playlist since they've yet to put one together themselves, but I'm led to believe that there may be more holiday videos coming later in the week, so if what you see catches your attention make sure to subscribe.

And that about wraps things up! This will most likely be my final post of 2017 so I want to say a merry Christmas, happy holidays and a huge thank you to everyone who has been reading Shock and Pause since I started. You may be a quiet lot but I can see the views and it really does mean a lot to me to know that people are reading. As I mentioned last time I'll be back sometime in the new year with an update on my posting schedule, but until then take care, and thanks again!
