Welcome in!
The purpose of this page is to preserve my gaming experiences. Day to day, week to week - whatever. If I did something cool, or found something cool in a game, I'll write about it.
Gaming is pretty much my main hobby, I spend a lot of time doing it, but I don't really have anyone in my real life to share those experiences with. Sure, there are forums, subreddits and other communities for that kind of thing, but sometimes I just want a place to record my thoughts without other people's egos getting in the way. Call me anti social if you want - you wouldn't be the first - but I don't mean anything bad by it. I wouldn't be doing this online if I were afraid of scrutiny. I think I'm just looking for something a little more peaceful, you know?
Many years ago this page hosted my first attempt at a video game blog. I called it "Shock and Pause" ... like, "Shock and Awe" but, you know, "Pause" instead of "Awe" ... because pausing is something you do in games, and pause sort of (not really ...) rhymes with awe.
It was the best I could come up with at the time ...
The whole conceit was "Learning about games by teaching about games." I was basically trying to hone my writing abilities and teach myself about the games industry by defining gaming terminology, writing practice articles and reviews, that sort of thing. Kind of a "fake it till you make it" deal, with the end goal of breaking into games journalism in earnest. I still think it was a good concept, I just lacked the conviction to commit to it at the time. Becoming a games journalist is no longer my goal, but I've been paying twenty bucks a year to keep this domain for the better part of a decade, so I figured I'd finally try to get some use out of it. I've scrubbed the page of all those old entries - though I might post them back up at some point, for posterity.
So yeah, I'm glad I finally took the time to start setting this up. It's an idea that's been knocking around in my head for awhile now, and I'm excited to start rounding it out. Normally I'm the type of person who doesn't like to start on something until I've examined it from every angle and planned it out to the last detail - meaning that before I started posting stuff I'd first need to redesign the entire blog and have outlines for the next six posts scratched out. But I'm hoping to be a little more freestyle this time around.
Here's to round two.
